Steve Yzerman's jersey was hoisted to the top of Joe Louis Arena last night before the Detroit Red Wings beat the Anaheim Ducks 2-1.
He became only the sixth player to have a retired jersey in the history of the Red Wings, after Geordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, Terry Sawchuk, Sid Abel, and Ted Lindsay.
The greatest honour to bestow any NHL Player was seemingly ignored by many, yet those in Hockeytown will forever remember the ceremony, which lasted almost an hour and a half.
Yzerman is second in most categories in NHL History for the Red Wings behind Geordie Howe, and was captain for a NHL record 22 years.
Teemu Selanne even admitted at watching some of it, saying "he could not help but watch it."
It was the first time this season that Joe Louis Arena has been full to capacity properly all season.
