Yeah Baby! Torre, A-Rod, Dodgers!

I never liked the hiring of Ned, a Giant to run my Dodgers. I liked Grady Little even less when he was announced and never warmed to him. I eventually gave Ned a break. Now we are headed for better times and warmer climes boys. The Dodgers are letting underachieving Little go and replacing him with the legend, Joe Torre.

That is amazing good news. Let's look at the Dodgerinos and see what they've got. The outfield has emerging Kemp, contact-hitting Ethier, and speedy Pierre who is switching to LF. He does not have a strong arm. I hated the signing of Gonzo. What does he bring? Clutch hitting, c'mon. Even on a streaky hitting team, I say let the kids play, like Delwyn Young, don't take away at-bats from your future. Still, the OF is in pretty fine shape. I am praying we don't make another expensive mistake and go after selfish Andruw Jones who will sacrifice defense, counts, team, his children, to go after home runs. Sure, we could use 40 bombs or so, but is he going to hit that in a parks like Dodgers, Petco and AT&T? Doubt it. Not with the pitching and pitcher's parks.

The IF is pretty good. I like Loney's glove and his potential. Nomar is a fan favorite and local yokel and you need an old guy in your line-up. Let him be it. Kent should be gone. Furcal is admittedly good though I am usually not a fan of former Braves or guys affiliated with that franchise in any way that's why I cheered the removal of attitude-plagued Wilson Betemit who was not a team player.

Ironically the weak spot on the Dodgers is at 3-bag. Hmm? A-Rod plays that position. Hmm? A-Rod gives the Dodgers their best player, he hits bombs, he can play decent D, is heralded as one of the best in history. Will McCourt fork over the money? He has to. He started out with stingy Beane-wannabe Paul DePodesta. Now he is talking the talk, he wants his Dodgers to be like the Yankees. Well, you got Torre, put your money where your mouth is.

A-Rod would work out well in a city like LA. He has the movie star looks, is damn talented, rich, and seems to collapse when it matters most. That's LA for you baby! We love overpaid underachievers here so come on in. Still, A-Rod dramatically improves our team. Let's hope McCourt pays up.

That will round out our infield nicely, you can move Nomar to second. Which leaves our pitching, a year ago supposedly our strength. I say go with Kuo as your left-arm in the rotation. Joe can inspire young guys to play well and I like Kuo over Wolf. Have Randy be the long reliever and ocassional starter. If you're keeping Hendrickson, okay that gives you a bevy of left-arms for a potential World Series against Boston or New York- what would be better than revenge against NY for all those World Series they beat us in, and for Torre. He would serve them the dish cold.

Otherwise, rely on Broxton, make him the stud, work on his mantra, his moxy, see Papelbon. Then, see if Schmidt is worth the dough and if not, ship him to Boston who will be short a starter soon enough and knows Clement is useless. Build around Chad Billingsley, the young guys, keep Lowe and Brad another year, they've been solid. Maybe the Dodgers can use another solid bullpen arm, maybe someone will emerge. Likely, someone will emerge.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Joe Torre Era!

Torre will help them in the clubhouse where there were issues. You better hope there is a long list of rubber armed relief guys because Joe likes to use em up. Scott Proctor probably winced at the news.

Tyrone, you made me realize, Mariano is the guy who will be the one other bullpen addition. Dodger Stadium will help his numbers look good for another season.

Dodger Stadium has actually helped hitters each of the last two years. I suppose it's possible that's just an anomaly (it was a significant pitchers' park the two years before that), but I wouldn't feel comfortable saying it would help any pitcher a whole lot. As far as the entire division goes, Petco and AT+T are at least balanced out by the two extreme hitter's parks in the division (Coors and Arizona). http://sport...s/parkfactor

Great Joe Torre can ruin his legacy by managing a team that has no chance of winning. Sure he's a good manager but a manger is only as good as the players on the field.

I don't know... the Dodgers are definitely headed in the right direction (unlike the Yanks). They have a ton of young talent like Russell Martin and James Loney. The NL West is looking like it could be one of the better divisions in baseball next year, outside of the Giants. The two NL Championship teams, the Pads are always in it, and if the Dodgers manage to land Torre they're gonna compete (not to mention if they get ARod).

Our infield: Martin, Loney, Garciaparra, Furcal and A-Rod at 3d. Not bad.

Our OF: Pierre, Kemp, Ethier, D. Young Our Bullpen: Rivera, Broxton, Saito (plus some usable fodder) Our Rotation: Lowe, Penny, Billingsley, Kuo, Schmidt

I think that is pretty good for Torre. This team can make it to the World Series next year.

Dodger Stadium is not a pitcher's park. It's actually skewed a little bit in favor of hitters, and AT&T Park is just barely a pitcher's park. Petco Park is really the only stadium in that division that is truly pitcher-friendly.

Why A-rod at 3b? Aren't the Didgers a better team with A-Rod at SS, Furcal at 2b and someone at 3b, maybe LaRoche?

I agree wholeheartedly. Alex Rodriguez is a shortstop. The only reason he's been a third baseman for the past few years is because of Captain Bighead refusing to do what was best for the team and move to the outfield.

Tylersalt, I have to disagree with you when you say that A-Rod should have been the Yanks SS, and Derek Jeter should have played somewhere else. Jeter play somewhere else besides SS? Plus, it was Jeter's team when A-Rod came, and it is still Jeter's team, I don't think it would have been fair to Jeter if A-Rod knocked him out of his position, especially if Jeter is better at SS then Rodriguez. I am starting to hate A-Rod (and the Yankees) more and more.

BB, that's the thing. Jeter is not a better SS than A-Rod. Again, it's all about position scarcity. Rodriguez is a better hitter and fielder than Jeter, hands down. He's instantly the best shortstop in the majors if he plays there, whereas Jeter is not. Jeter's never had great range, his errors have started to go up, and he's gonna end up in the outfield before too long to extend his career. Even Ripken moved from SS eventually, and Jeter's half the player Cal Ripken was.

Red Sox are in no need of a starter or the god-forsaken Gagne deal would not have happened. We are gaining Lester and Buchholz next year, plus there's another kid in Pawtucket.

Thanks for being the Ex-Red Sox though! How's our 2003 team working out for you?

Seriously, Grady is a horrible manager. A tree stump is not only smarter but has more personality. Nomar is still productive when healthy and Derek Lowe's success was, like Arroyo's, subject to Varitek's catching. Without him they are not worth a dime.

A-rod does make sense in LA, especially with Torre, who got him to perform at least during the season. Could be a contender....

Hehe, I really agree with you Pip. Good characterization of Little. Lowe has been effective, check out his numbers. I think in Boston the fans as much as Tek impact how guys perform, the Fenway too. In L.A. it is not as passionate so guys relax and enjoy the weather.

Reason I want A-Rod at 3b is because I want him to hit for power. At SS he'd take more of a beating. Furcal is doing fine in that spot but the middle infield defense of the Dodgers is not fine by any means. I hope Nomar at 2nd can bring some energy to turning dp's.

Wherever ARod goes it will be as a shortstop. Forget about him playing third. Otherwise, he would have stayed in New York. Get it now?

Yeah, yeah, I hear what you are seeing but I really doubt that A-Hole gives a damn what position he plays anymore. He has more than proven to me that all he gives a fack about is the $.

Actually, Tyrone, if he only cared about the $$ he would have stayed in New York. All he wants now is to prove he's better than Jeter and to get his ring as a shortstop. He'd play the next two years for nothing if he was guaranteed a ring, at SS.

Guys, A-Rod as SS moves Furcal to 2b obviously but I am worried about his offense. I really hope his bat doesn't lose homerunability at Dodgers Stadium moreover as an SS. Plus, as a SS he has a greater chance to get injured. I'd like it if A-Rod suddenly focused on his HR record and decided to play a less intense defensive spot.
