[edit] High School
Adibi attended Phoebus High School in Hampton, Virginia. He played a big part in helping his team win back-to-back AAA championships. He was voted to many All-America teams, and he was rated as a top 100 player nationally(No. 96), regardless of position. He was the leader of a Phantoms' defense that held opponents to fewer than five points a game. Senior year, he was ranked the No. 1 player in Virginia by The Roanoke Times and rated the No. 4 linebacker in the nation he finished with a team-best 13.5 sacks and 100-plus tackles, including 31 for loss. He also rushed for 575 yards and 11 TDs as a fullback.
[edit] College
Xavier Adibi arrived at Virginia Tech in 2003. The linebacking crew was pretty deep already at Virginia Tech, and he needed sometime to develop, so the decision was made for him to redshirt. He got bigger and stronger, showcased by his progression in the weightroom during this time.
In 2004, Adibi was injured during the first game against USC. However, he made a speedy recovery, and was able to play in seven games that season. He ended his season with 25 tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 interception.
Xavier continued to get better in the off season, and this showed on the field in 2005. He was able to stay healthy for the whole year, and his number showed that. He finished the year with 69 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions.
In 2006, Adibi would once again show improvement on the field. He started all 13 games at his position. He recorded 82 tackles, three sacks, three interceptions, and three forced fumbles on the year. The three forced fumbles were tied for best in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2006. This season would solidify him as one of the best linebackers in the nation.
During the 2007 campaign, Adibi's number were a little down from his 2006 season. However, that takes nothing away from the things he did on the field. He was still regarded as one of the best linebackers in the country. He finished the year with 69 tackles, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.
[edit] Scouting Report
Xavier has a lot of pros to his game. He is very good at getting around blockers. He uses his hands very well in that regard. Xavier's length is definitely a strength, as he uses it to beat out less athletic players. His speed is probably his best assett. He ran a 4.4 forty yard dash in college. He is also a very physical player. He is not afraid to go for the big hit.
Some things that might worry NFL coaches are his size. He could definitely stand to put on some weight. Right now he looks to be a little bit of a tweener. He is more in the mold of an NFL safety, than a linebacker. He also is not a great open field tackler. Some have also questioned his field presence.
With all of that said, he is probably one of the more athletic players in the draft. Someone will definitely take a shot on him. He could last all the way to the fourth round, but don't be surprised if he is taken in the second round.
