Woody Strode
[edit] Biography
Woody Strode (Woodrow Wilson Strode) was born on July 25, 1914 in Los Angeles, California. After going to high school at Jefferson (Los Angeles, CA), Strode attended the University of California - Los Angeles. Strode made his professional debut in the NFL in 1946 with the Los Angeles Rams. He played for the Los Angeles Rams for one season, and was cut from the team after the 1947 exhibition game. Dan Reeves, the owner of the Rams, had resented having to put Woody on the team because he was married to a full blooded Hawaiian. Woody got a call from Les Lear who was coaching the Calgary Stampeders in Canada and invited him up to play. Woody helped the Stampeders to win their first Grey Cup title in 1948. This was the national championship of Canada. Having proven himself in professional football, Woody became a professional wrestler and subsequently a respected actor.--66.8.204.128 17:48, 26 June 2008 (UTC)Kalai Strode 2008
