Born on January 20, 1887 in Detroit, Michigan, Bill James (William Henry James) played for the Cleveland Naps, St. Louis Browns, Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 8 year career. James broke into the bigs on June 12, 1911 with the Cleveland Naps, and put up a 4.88 ERA in 51.2 innings pitched in 1911, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Bill James's best season was 1914, when he posted a 2.85 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 109 batters.
