Born on May 29, 1928 in Hays, Kansas, Willard Schmidt (Willard Raymond Schmidt) played for the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 7 year career. Schmidt broke into the bigs on April 19, 1952 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 2.78 ERA in 129.2 innings pitched in 1955, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Willard Schmidt's best season was 1955, when he posted a 2.78 ERA and struck out 86 batters.
