Born on February 2, 1908 in Greensboro, North Carolina, Wes Ferrell (Wesley Cheek Ferrell) played for the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, Washington Senators, New York Yankees, Brooklyn Dodgers and Boston Braves over the course of his 15 year career. Ferrell broke into the bigs on September 9, 1927 with the Cleveland Indians, and put up a 3.60 ERA in 242.2 innings pitched in 1929, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Wes Ferrell's best season was 1930, when he posted a 3.31 ERA, won 25 games and struck out 143 batters.
