Wes Covington (John Wesley Covington) was born on March 27, 1932 in Laurinburg, North Carolina. He made his Major League debut on April 19, 1956 for the Milwaukee Braves. In 1956, his rookie year, he hit .283 with 2 home runs and 16 RBI. Covington played for the Milwaukee Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, Kansas City Athletics, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 11 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Wes Covington's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1958, when he slugged 24 home runs, hit for a .330 average and knocked in 74 runs. However, others believe that it was 1957, when he slugged 21 home runs, hit for a .284 average and knocked in 65 runs.
