Wayne Fontes (Wayne Howard Joseph Fontes) was born on February 2, 1940 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. After going to high school at McKinley (Canton, OH) and Wareham (MA), Fontes attended Michigan State University. Fontes made his professional debut in the AFL in 1962 with the New York Titans. He played for the New York Titans for his entire 1 year career.
