Walter Thornton (Walter Miller Thornton) was born on February 18, 1875 in Lewiston, Maine. He made his Major League debut on July 1, 1895 for the Chicago Colts. In 1897, his rookie year, he hit .321 with 0 home runs and 55 RBI. Thornton played for the Chicago Colts and Chicago Orphans over the course of his 4 year career.

Most people believe that Walter Thornton's best season was 1897, when he hit for a .321 average and knocked in 55 runs.
