Walt Sweeney (Walter Francis Sweeney) was born on April 18, 1941 in Cohasset, Massachusetts. After going to high school at Cohasset (MA), Sweeney attended Syracuse University. Sweeney made his professional debut in the AFL in 1963 with the San Diego Chargers. He played in the AFL for 7 years, playing for the San Diego Chargers the entire time. Sweeney also played in the NFL for 6 years, playing for the San Diego Chargers and Washington Redskins over the course of his 6 year NFL career.

Most people believe that 1963 was Walt Sweeney's best year.
