Walt Ellis (Walter Joseph Ellis) was born on May 26, 1898 in Groton, Connecticut. After going to high school at Suffield (CT), Ellis attended the University of Detroit Mercy. Ellis made his professional debut in the NFL in 1924 with the Columbus Tigers. He played for the Chicago Cardinals, Detroit Panthers and Columbus Tigers over the course of his 4 year career.
