Walt Ambrose (Walter L. Ambrose) was born on August 7, 1905 in Portage, Wisconsin. After going to high school at Portage (WI), Ambrose attended Carroll College. Ambrose made his professional debut in the NFL in 1930 with the Portsmouth Spartans. He played for the Portsmouth Spartans for his entire 1 year career.
