[edit] Biography

Born on September 9, 1899 in Brooklyn, New York, Waite Hoyt (Waite Charles Hoyt) played for the New York Giants, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Athletics, Brooklyn Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates over the course of his 21 year career. Hoyt broke into the bigs on July 24, 1918 with the New York Giants, and put up a 3.25 ERA in 105.1 innings pitched in 1919, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Waite Hoyt's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1928, when he posted a 3.36 ERA, won 23 games and struck out 67 batters. However, others believe that it was 1927, when he posted a 2.63 ERA, won 22 games and struck out 86 batters. Another season that some believe was Waite Hoyt's best was 1934, when he posted a 2.93 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 105 batters.
