Vinokourov fails drugs test - Disqualified from Tour de France

by Alex Holowczak

The Tour de France was thrown into further drug problems as pre race favorite, Kazak, Alexander Vinokourov was found to have failed a drugs test. Having crashed earlier in the tour, he was several minutes behind, but won two consecutive stages to erode the lead. But he failed a drugs test on Tuesday. He asked for a B sample to be tested, but he still faces a two-year ban from the sport.

There was a lot of politically correct "pussy-footing" about though after the incident - the team for which he rides was "invited to withdraw" from the Tour, and they "accepted the invitation". Just kick them out straight off for God's sake!
