Van Jakes (Van Keith Jakes) was born on May 10, 1961 in Phenix City, Alabama. After going to high school at Seneca Vocational (Buffalo, NY), Jakes attended Kent State University. Jakes made his professional debut in the NFL in 1983 with the Kansas City Chiefs. He played for the New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers over the course of his 6 year career.
Most people believe that 1987 was Van Jakes's best year, as he picked off 3 passes.
