Born on September 22, 1890 in Cleveland, Ohio, Urban Shocker (Urban James Shocker) played for the New York Yankees and St. Louis Browns over the course of his 13 year career. Shocker broke into the bigs on April 24, 1916 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 2.62 ERA in 82.1 innings pitched in 1916, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Urban Shocker's best season was 1922, when he posted a 2.97 ERA, won 24 games and struck out 149 batters.
