Tuesdays with Romo: How Wrong Am I? (AFC Edition)

by Oh No Romo

We have finally reached the halfway point in the 2007 NFL season. We've reached the point of the show where we see how wrong I was on my season predictions. So enjoy a little Bon Jovi as I enlighten you folks as to how wrong I have been this season.

AFC East (Predictions)

New England Patriots 12-4

New York Jets 10-6

Buffalo Bills 8-8

Miami Dolphins  7-9

AFC East (After Eight Weeks of Action)

New England Patriots 8-0

Buffalo Bills 3-4

New York Jets 1-7

Miami Dolphins 0-8

Thoughts: I am right about two things, the Patriots being in first and the Dolphins being in last place. Unless the Patriots go 4-4, the Dolphins win seven of their next eight and the Bills win five of nine, I'll just be flat out wrong. There is already no hope for the Jets, they've lost seven games already.

AFC North (Predictions)

Baltimore Ravens 13-3

Pittsburgh Steelers 9-7

Cincinnati Bengals 9-7

Cleveland Browns 5-11

AFC North (After Eight Weeks of Action)

Pittsburgh Steelers 5-2

Cleveland Browns 4-3

Baltimore Ravens 4-3

Cincinnati Bengals 2-5

Thoughts: Once again, I am wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong, boy do I need a hug. I knew the Steelers would be ok, but I never expected things to go the way they would.

AFC South (Predictions)

Indianapolis Colts 13-3

Jacksonville Jaguars 10-6

Tennessee Titans 9-7

Houston Texans 4-12

AFC South (After Eight Weeks of Action)

Indianapolis Colts 7-0

Tennessee Titans 5-2

Jacksonville Jaguars 5-2

Houston Texans 3-5

Thoughts: It's still early, but it looks like this division gives me the best hope. The wins and losses could fall into place.

AFC West (Predictions)

Denver Broncos 11-5

Kansas City Chiefs 9-7

San Diego Chargers 8-8

Oakland Raiders 6-10

AFC West (After Eight Weeks of Action)

Kansas City Chiefs 4-3

San Diego Chargers 4-3

Denver Broncos 3-4

Oakland Raiders 2-5

Thoughts: On a category of 1-10 in being wrong, this division is at a 8.5

Stay tuned, I have the NFC coming up soon.

Nos

My thoughts:
  1. I think the Texans are definitely better than 4-12.
  2. The AFC West is the second-worst division in football, ahead of only the NFC West.
  3. The AFC South is the best division in football.
  4. The Cleveland Browns will make a serious push for the playoffs.

Wrong the afc east deserves some point there. Yes the pats make things different but both the 2 divisions you mentioned will have a higher win total than the afc east.

Exactly the AFC is horrible. New England is a stud, but Buffalo, NYJ and Miami are horrid.

No way does the NFC West have a better record than the AFC East. Pats will have 14+ wins, bills get 7, and the jets/phins together will have 6. Thats 27 wins.

Seahawks get 11-12, and beyond that, no one else has more than 8 wins. If they all finish 8-8, that's 36 wins, but that's not very likely.

More likely is Hawks 10, Cardinals 7, 49ers 6, Rams 2. And I'm pretty generous w/ the cardinals and 49ers. That's 25 wins.

Lets do the AFC West:

Chargers 10, Broncos or Cheifs 8, other one 6, Raiders 4. 30 is the ceiling, so I'll go with the AFC West>AFC East, but not for the NFC West.

from worst to best, I'd probably go:

NFC W, NFC S, AFC E, NFC N, AFC W, NFC E, AFC N, AFC S (only b/c I think Cincy's out of it, while the Texans have a chance, albeit very slim)

The Texans are better than 4-2.

The NFC East is the best division in football. The AFC East is the worse division in football.

Cleveland wins the AFC North.

the NFC East is not the best division in football, because it is in the NFC. The Skins and Eagles suck, and the Cowboys and Giants are good for NFC teams. No division in the NFC is allowed to be called the best division in football.

The AFC South is the best division. If the texans played in the NFC, they'd win whatever division they were in. If it weren't for the texans I'd say the south would get 3 in the playoffs. It'll be the North because the bengals are worse than the texans and will not spoil anything for cleveland.

I agree that the AFC South is the best division in football but you can't be serious about the Texans winning a division in the NFC. They beat the Chiefs on week one, which is nice, but the Chiefs got off to a slow start because Larry Johnson missed almost all of camp and was clearly rusty. The Chiefs lost their first 2, when Johnson only rushed for a COMBINED 98 yards. After that, they got a somewhat respectable win against Carolina. Their only other win was against the NFL's worst team, Miami, and they only won that by 3.

Outside of those three wins, they have a close loss to Indy and total butt-whoopings by Jacksonville and San Diego. There was also that loss to Tennessee when Vince Young was out, and was STILL a monumental butt-whooping until the Titans stopped playing and let Houston make it close. The Texans are decent, but they wouldn't win any division in any conference in any year.

the Texans with Andre johnson could win a division in the NFC. The Texans in their current state probably couldn't

And you don't think that Ben Roethlisberger will have something to say about the Browns winning the AFC North?

The Browns are improved. As a Browns fan of 30+ years, I have to admit that I'm not so much pleasantly surprised as stunned by their success so far. That being said, they may be in the same division as the Steelers, but they are not in the same league. If the Browns can beat the Steelers in two weeks at Pittsburgh, then maybe I'll believe. I'm just hoping at this point that it's less of a rout than the first game.

Thats why you play the games, right? I thought the jets best case scenario was 10-6 and worst case was 6-10. At this point, to even reach their worst case scenario they need to go 5-3 over the last 8 games which I am not willing to bet on. Ugh. What a year!

I like your idea of the Chiefs finishing 9-7, better than Trizz's idea of them going 5-11.
