They were officiall announced as an expansion franchise on May 11, 2006 when Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment announced it had purchased an expansion franchise. They played their first game on April 7, 2007 in a loss to Chivas USA. They missed the playoffs in their first season. They are currently in their second season.
