Tommy Holleran (Thomas Vincent Holleran) was born on December 18, 1896 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After going to high school at Kiski Prep (Saltsburg, PA), Holleran attended the University of Pittsburgh. Holleran made his professional debut in the NFL in 1922 with the Toledo Maroons. He played for the Buffalo All-Americans and Toledo Maroons over the course of his 2 year career.
