Tom Whelan (Thomas Joseph Whelan) was born on January 3, 1894 in Lynn, Massachusetts. Whelan attended Dartmouth College and Georgetown University. Whelan made his professional debut in the APFA in 1920 with the Canton Bulldogs. He played for the Cleveland Tigers and Canton Bulldogs over the course of his 2 year career.
