[edit] Biography
The 6'10 240-pound Long Islander was an All-Star caliber offensive forward. A terrific NBA athlete, Gugs was a good defender, a surprising ball handler, and an able scorer. Despite all that, he was often underappreciated in the NBA.
An All-American at North Carolina State, Gugliotta ended up on several NBA teams during his career despite his starring abilities. Washington, Golden State, Minnesota and other stops greeted him.
A white offensive star, Gugliotta sometimes struggled with teammates and opponents alike. In Minnesota, he was briefly the team's best player, but youngsters Kevin Garnett and Stephon Marbury got more press.
Gugliotta also suffered from illnesses related to medication and vitamin supplements during his career. He had a surprisingly tough career for such a promising star.
