Tom Funchess (Thomas Funchess) was born on September 12, 1964 in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. After going to high school at Crystal Springs (MS), Funchess attended Jackson State University. Funchess made his professional debut in the AFL in 1968 with the Boston Patriots. He played in the AFL for 2 years, playing for the Boston Patriots the entire time. Funchess also played in the NFL for 5 years, playing for the Houston Oilers, Miami Dolphins and Boston Patriots over the course of his 5 year NFL career.

Most people believe that 1971 was Tom Funchess's best year.
