Born on May 22, 1884 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Tom McCarthy (Thomas Patrick McCarthy) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds and Boston Doves over the course of his 2 year career. McCarthy broke into the bigs on May 10, 1908 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 1.82 ERA in 103.2 innings pitched in 1908, his rookie year.
