- Madden 2000 - Barry Sanders retired.
- Madden 2001 - Eddie George bobbling a pass in the playoffs. The pass was then intercepted by Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis, who returned the ball for a touchdown. George got injured the following season.
- Madden 2002 - Daunte Culpepper struggled to a 4-7 record until he was shelved with a season-ending knee injury.
- Madden 2003 - Marshall Faulk suffered an injury and had a bad season overall. He has yet to break 1,000 yards rushing since.
- Madden 2004 - Michael Vick suffering a fractured right fibula during a preseason game. Vick played in only 5 regular season games.
- Madden 2005 - Ray Lewis had an injury that kept him out of the last game of the regular season. It was also Lewis' first season without a single interception. In week 6 the following year, Ray Lewis' season was ended by an injury.
- Madden NFL 06 - Donovan McNabb had a highly-publicized feud with wide receiver Terrell Owens. Late in the season, McNabb opted to have season-ending surgery for his sports hernia. The Eagles were eliminated from playoffs and finished the year with a 6-10 record.
- Madden NFL 07 - Shaun Alexander. Whatever happens to Alexander, we're sure Mike Holmgren will blame it on the officials.
