The Apocalypse is Here!!!!!!!!! The Patriots are active in Free Agency!!!!!!!!!

My Beloved Pats are making me proud once again to be a New England Patriots Fan. First, they put a 2 first round pick tender on Cornerback Asante Samuel. Great move here. We get our best CB to come back, unless someone is willing to give us two first rounders!!!!! Seriously, if anyone here knows an NFL GM that can get 2 First Rounders to send our way for Sammuel, please tell them to get working. I love this move because no matter what happens, the Patriots still win.

Next, the Patriots go out and spend some money on Linebacker Adalius Thomas, who should be more than capable of replacing Tully Banta-Cain next season. I don't know a lot about him, but if he is good enough to start for the Ravens, he's good enough to start for the Patriots.

The Patriots make a small bit of noise signing a runningback in Sammy Morris, and a TE in Kyle Brady. I like these signing for the sake of depth on the roster, and for the price tag they carry. Both of these are good players who I expect to help bring this team to Glendale.

Then, the Patriots send a Second and Seventh Round pick to Miami for WR Wes Welker. This is a good move by the Patriots, as he seems like he can step in and fill the role of likely to retire Troy Brown. This also strengthens the WR Corps that now has 4 decent WR's in Jabar Gaffney, Reche Caldwell, Wes Welker, and Chad Jackson, who is likey to return from a Knee injury last year. They saw the player they want, and went out and got him.

Finally, in what is the biggest move so far, espn.com reports that the Patriots are interested in trading for Randy Moss. One word describes this, and that is Wow. There was speculation for the exact same thing the day of the trade deadline; but as it turns out, nothing happened. Moss is the most gifted Wide Reciever ever. No question. He would be shattering records left and right if it weren't for whenever he isn't happy or something goes wrong, he acts out.

If Randy Moss can still succeed in the NFL, it will be on the Patriots. He likes to act out in public. The patriots can take care of this, there are so many leaders that will be all over him as soon as he does it. His work ethic is poor. If the patriots are good at one thing, it's making their players work. They make that fifth string QB play as hard as any Starter, and will make Moss do the same. He bashes teammates. Who can he bash? No one. He can't criticize Tom Brady in the same way he can't criticize Brett Favre, they give everything every game. The Oline? They have a pretty solid oline, and even when they don't it isn't a problem. The Coaches? That sure went well for TO in Dallas now diddn't it.

Please, please let #84 don that Red and Navy Uniform with that Silver helmet in New England this fall.

Interesting take though FP. I will say, I think its real interesting to see the Pats spending so much money in FA after avoiding it for so long. I have no doubt that it will pay off for them. Now your excitment over Randy Moss may be a little excessive but I will let it slide for more.

Imagine having Moss play like he did in '98 again...Thats what I think will happen if/when he comes to NE. HE may not be quite as good, but he will still be good

Imagine a player going back to play the way they did when they were a rookie, 10 years ago, before injury and being jaded by the league. Thats a HUGE if. I can think of a dozen or more players that if they could play like they did 10 years ago they would be great.

but the biggest change over those 10 years has been work ethic. HE demands a Double Coverage, and with Brady throwing the ball, should be racking up the numbers. Now, I won't expect him to put up the number he did 10 years ago, just for him to start playing like he did back then

Moss never had a great work ethic. He let his natural talent speak for itself. Now people know who he is and what he is all about and he gets that double coverage. The more fame Moss has found the more his work ethic has worn away. Dont espect a great resisance in the behavoir of Randy Moss just because Belichek is calling the shots.

But he had good enough work ethic. Not just because Belichik is running the show, but because Brady, Belichik, Seymour, Harrison, and Bruschi are running the show.

Moss, has work ethic when things come easy to him. He is a typical bratty athlete who was never pushed when building his skills, and now does not know how to respond adversity or a challange. Having a bunch of guys in the lockerroom leaning on him and pressuring him will not make him magically gain something that no one else has been able to give him.

Moss wants to play, and if he expects to even touch the field on gameday, he'll at least work the entire week and not take time off in the middle of a game

Or he can go to another team, that will let Randy be Randy and play when he wants to. Im sure there are plenty of other suitors out there who will pay Moss well just to have him on their squad and they will let him get away murder.

You see, there are two teams that want Randy. Green Bay, and New England. The "owners" of the packers wouldn't let him get away with not playing hard. they have tomuch pride for their team

Yes, but Moss can handle those "owners" a lot easier than having a coach breathing down his neck and takign shots at him in the media, or players riding him in practice.

I know you live in the Twin cities, and Ive spent a great deal of time in that area. But I also think you are living too much in 98, and not enough in 07. Youre letting the image of Moss in the early yeas in a Vikings Uni rather than the image of him walking off a field in Washington, or just flopping all together in Oakland the last 2 years.

Actually, the ESPN report has an unnamed patriots offical that said belichik would love to have Randy come to NE. I truely think that Moss can still be a dominant WR in the league if a coach can install a work ethic into him.

You know that saying you cant teach an old dog new tricks? It especially applies to Randy Moss who is now 30 something years old I believe. A Work ethic is something that a person learns as a kid and a young adult. It cannot be developed later, especialy when there are other easier options out.

As a Dallas fan I can say that TO barely got through a season in Dallas, and it took its toll on that team. He had suicide attempt that was slightly distracting, he missed 2 games with a broken finger. He caused to the coach to retire at the end of the year, and he was overshadowed the last half of the season by the wonder boy Romo. TO never changed who he was, there was just a bigger news story that pushed him to the back page.

I wouldn't mind having Moss on the New England roster next year, because I think a winning atmosphere will change his attitude, much like what happened with Corey Dillon. However, he's become just a shell of his former self. When Dillon came to NE, he still had all his skills intact. Moss is on the wrong side of 30 and is constantly suffering nagging injuries. He's lost that blazing speed that made him so great in his younger days, and still refuses to go over the middle. I'm sure he could still help the Pats with the occasional big play, but I just don't think Moss is a top notch wideout any more.

Oh, and if you want to see an early breakout/sleeper special next year, look no further than Jabar Gaffney. He'll be Brady's top target next year, with Caldwell, Jackson, Welker and Watson as nice compliments. They don't really need Moss.

Conference - 3 rec, 37 yds, 1 TD

He didn't sign with the Pats until Week 6 or get significant playing time since Week 10 when he was just trying to learn his role. He and Brady didn't sync up until the playoffs and now Brady and Belichick know the kind of potential they have there.

I'd send a first and a fourth even. The amount of gain on offense we would get would outweigh any defensive gains from drafting defense with one of those picks

I want jackson to breakout this year, and get moss. 2 Speed demons with good hands on the outside, 2 posession Wr's in the slots, and Welker as the No. 5. that would be scary. Or better, start every game with Maroney in the Backfield in SHotgun with 4 Wr's. If we land moss and Jackson can have a breakout year, we have a shot to have one of the best offenses in the league

I don't trust Moss' health and don;t think he's anywhere near the player he used to be. It's not worth it for a guy they don't desperatly need and they're better off utilizing those two first rounders on defense or even taking someone like Dwayne Bowe, who's big and physical and could help the team right away. Plus, Belichick and Pioli are excellent drafters and right now they only have 6 picks. There's no way they would give up two more of those. If Oakland would accept just a third rounder, then I'd do it, but that's unlikely.

I can't wait to see what Maroney does when the job is all his. He reminded me a lot of Shaun Alexander at times last year. But I'd like to see them bring in a solid backup. Maroney broke down at the end of the year last year and I'm a little worried about his durability.

I really hope you're right, but after some quick research, I've discovered that in Maroney's junior year, his only year as the full-time starter, he suffered from a lingering ankle injury at the end of the year. The college season is much shorter than the NFL season, and he couldn't handle that load for a full season. I hope he stays healthy, but his track record isn't good, and it could become an issue.

The ankle injury came in the hard part of the schedule when they played Wisconsin, Iowa, OSU, etc. and the team had no other game plan other than hand the ball of to maroney. He still rushed for over 1,000 yards that season. It didn't keep him out of an entire game, and had been healthy besides that. Besides, most players have some sort of injury in college, even if it doesn't keep them out of the game

I was a season ticket owner for the gophers that year. My Grand parents have season tickets, but were out of town so I got them. I watched almost all of his games last year, and called 3 big things in that draft. VY to the titans, Williams to HOU, and Maroney to NE. He got hurt playing against teams on a whole different level.
