Born on June 1, 1869 in St. Louis, Missouri, Ted Breitenstein (Theodore P. Breitenstein) played for the St. Louis Browns, St. Louis Perfectos, Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 11 year career. Breitenstein broke into the bigs on April 28, 1891 with the St. Louis Browns, and put up a 4.69 ERA in 282.1 innings pitched in 1892, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Ted Breitenstein's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1894, when he posted a 4.79 ERA, won 27 games and struck out 140 batters. However, others believe that it was 1897, when he posted a 3.62 ERA, won 23 games and struck out 98 batters.
