Syracuse University's Baltimore-Washington Connections

Syracuse University is located in upstate New York, but the way they raid local talent from the Baltimore-Washington area for sports, they might as well have a satellite campus in Arundel Mills Mall. Check out this recent post from Todd Helmick's blog, a personality for Baltimore's local sports talk radio WNST 1570 AM.

He's compiled a list of football players from the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area currently running with the Orange. Here's the list:

OG Ryan Bartholomew - Fr. - DeMatha HS CB Quinton Brown - Sr. - Frederick Douglass HS DE Cornelius Campbell - Sr. - DeMatha HS QB Cameron Dantley - Jr. - St. Albans HS FB Tony Fiammetta - Jr. - Walkersville HS DE Brandon Gilbeaux - So. – Dunbar (DC) HS SS Donta Herrod - Jr. - Howard D. Woodson HS WR Rice Moss - Sr. - Georgetown Prep DT Anthony Perkins - Fr. - DeMatha HS CB Matt Reid - Fr. - Frederick Douglass HS QB Andrew Robinson - So. - Calvert Hall CB Nico Scott - Fr. - Eleanor Roosevelt HS DE Zary Stewart - Fr. - Frederick Douglass HS

Andrew Robinson, a sophomore for the Orange who attended Calvert Hall in Towson, has been named the starter for this year's season. And this is just the football team; don't forget about all the basketball talent that has come out of the area. Carmelo Anthony, Dave Bing, Lawrence Moten, Sherman Douglas and others have made the trip up north from DC and B-More, and Baltimore high school standout Donte' Greeen, a 6-9 forward will be following them this season.

Maybe the Maryland Terrapin is too menacing, and the friendliness of the Syracuse Orange makes regional athletes feel at home.
