Sy Sutcliffe (Elmer Ellsworth Sutcliffe) was born on April 15, 1862 in Wheaton, Illinois. He made his Major League debut on October 2, 1884 for the Chicago White Stockings. In 1888, his rookie year, he hit .257 with 0 home runs and 23 RBI. Sutcliffe played for the Chicago White Stockings, St. Louis Maroons, Detroit Wolverines, Cleveland Spiders, Cleveland Infants, Washington Senators and Baltimore Orioles over the course of his 7 year career.

Most people believe that Sy Sutcliffe's best season was 1890, when he hit for a .329 average and knocked in 60 runs.
