Swede Youngstrom (Adolph Frederick Youngstrom) was born on May 24, 1897 in Waltham, Massachusetts. After going to high school at Waltham (MA), Youngstrom attended Dartmouth College. Youngstrom made his professional debut in the APFA in 1920 with the Buffalo All-Americans. He played in the APFA for 2 years, playing for the Canton Bulldogs and Buffalo All-Americans over the course of his 2 year APFA career.Youngstrom also played in the NFL for 6 years, playing for the Frankford Yellow Jackets, Buffalo All-Americans, Cleveland Bulldogs and Buffalo Bisons over the course of his 6 year NFL career.
