Born on April 5, 1907 in Macon, Georgia, Sugar Cain (Merritt Patrick Cain) played for the Philadelphia Athletics, St. Louis Browns and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 7 year career. Cain broke into the bigs on April 15, 1932 with the Philadelphia Athletics, and put up a 4.25 ERA in 218 innings pitched in 1933, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Sugar Cain's best season was 1936, when he posted a 4.89 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 50 batters.
