Born on November 30, 1958 in Gadsden, Alabama, Steve Shields (Stephen Mack Shields) played for the Atlanta Braves, Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins over the course of his 5 year career. Shields broke into the bigs on June 1, 1985 with the Atlanta Braves, and put up a 5.16 ERA in 68 innings pitched in 1985, his rookie year.
