Born on February 2, 1922 in Tecumseh, Nebraska, Sheldon Jones (Sheldon Leslie Jones) played for the New York Giants, Boston Braves and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 8 year career. Jones broke into the bigs on September 9, 1946 with the New York Giants, and put up a 3.88 ERA in 55.2 innings pitched in 1947, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Sheldon Jones's best season was 1948, when he posted a 3.35 ERA, won 16 games and struck out 82 batters.
