- Trot Nixon made his MLB debut for the Boston Red Sox. He appeared as a pinch runner for Wil Cordero, stole a base, and went on to play right field in a game that the Red Sox lost to the New York Yankees, 12-11.

- David Ortiz set a Boston Red Sox Team record by hitting his 51st homerun of the season against Johan Santana of the Minnesota Twins. He also hit his 52nd home run in the game. The previous club record was held by Jimmie Foxx who blasted 50 in 1938.
