Selig Writes Letter to Fans

Bud Selig has written a letter to baseball fans everywhere that should appear in your local newspaper tomorrow morning. Selig basically says that he will not tolerate the use of HGH in baseball. He says that most players do not use the substance, but rather only a few use them to get ahead of the game. He also talks about how these players who use HGH are putting themselves at a legal risk.

In my opinion, this is just Bud Selig trying to make himself look like a good guy in all of this. By the baseball commissioner just saying that he will not tolerate the use of HGH, he is covering up the fact that the MLB is doing absolutely nothing other than the regular drug tests to try to solve the problem. Bud Selig has lost control over this issue, but he's trying to play it off as if he's an advocate for the integrity of the game, when all he or anybody else in the business cares about is making money off of us, the fans.

Please, Bud, we know what you're trying to do and it's not working. You can talk to us after you get something accomplished.

This Bud is for you. He is what he is. He will not change. And sadly, he is not going anywhere, anytime soon.

Actually, Selig has announced his intention not to seek another term in office when the current term ends at the end of January 2006. So he may be going somewhere very soon.

Um, we are in June of 2006. You said Bud's term ended in January? Well, he is still there.

Then he'll be gone sooner than later I would think. I believe he's waiting for the Collective Bargaining Agreement to be worked out.

I don't see a CBA being worked out anytime soon. Rumor I keep hearing is that they will extend the current deal for another year. Now look at the NFL, they have started a process to replace Tags. Have you heard of one for Selig? No. So, lets face it - Selig is here for the foreseeable future.

BaseballMusings has an excerpt from the letter. If Bud follows through on his words (big "if"), I'd be happy.

Now, instead of writing letters, maybe they should try getting rid of HGH? I know this is crazy, but why don't you just blood test. the players wanna play harball (no pun intended) play it...blood test...every week...watch them squirm...

The only problem is that there is no definitive blood test for HGH

My understanding was that they could, but it is kinda like a lie-detector test, not 100% Anyone have any info on this?!

I believe one of the biggest problems is that GH is naturally produced in the body and is the most abundant hormone in the human body. As far as I can tell searching the web there is no known test that is even near 50% accurate.

Interesting. Perhaps a test of comparative levels, but you can never tell when they started using. Isn't HGH sythesized, I'm sure that changes the properties, but... There's gotta be a fix for this, it really is ruining baseball...

He won't tolerate HGH? Neato. Should kind of go as a given. This is like the House's current resolution to say that they are in favor of beating terrorist. Super. I wonder if Selig got a buddy in Congress to write the letter for him?

I am personally just happy that Selig can spell HGH.

This a feeble attempt to make himself look like he's doing something. However at least he said something at much as I don't like the guy (despite knowing his nece)at least he said something, he has to get some credit for showing he cares. But how do write a letter to fans, that was corny attempt to make him sentimental and caring about it.
