Sean Fleming
[edit] BiographyAcquired: Re-signed with the Esks in March 2006. Sean was Edmonton’s first round selection (6th overall) in the 1992 CFL Canadian College Draft. After five seasons as an Eskimo, Sean signed as a free agent with the Washington Redskins in 1996. He re-joined the Eskimos for the remainder of the 1996 season after being released. After three more seasons as an Eskimo, Sean signed as a free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1999 and was released after three preseason games. He rejoined the club once again in 1999 and now enters his 15th season with Edmonton. Appeared in 18 games for Edmonton and was named Special Teams Player of the Week when he was good on all five of his field goal attempts in the Labour Day Rematch. He hit his 500th career field goal on August 18 in B.C. He underwent successful shoulder surgery in the off-season. (Edmonton) Appeared in 16 games for Edmonton and twice earned CFL Special Teams Player of the Week honours, the first coming in Week 17 after hitting all four of his field goal attempts and accounting for 13 points in a victory over Saskatchewan. The second selection came two weeks later (Week 19) after nailing all five of his field goal attempts and accounting for 16 of the club’s 22 points in a victory over the BC Lions. Sean was also named Special Teams Player of the Month for November. In Week 2, Fleming kicked his 465th career field goal, passing Dave Cutler for 1st on Edmonton’s All-Time Field goal list.
(Edmonton) Sean was named to the 2004 CFL West Division All-Star team as a place kicker and a punter. He also earned 2004 CFL All-Star status as a kicker. His 180 points and 78.7 success rate on field goals were tops in the CFL last season. Best performance: Fleming earned CFL Special Teams Player of the Week honours for his 19-point output in Week 10 versus Saskatchewan. Week #11, Sean was named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week. Tied for the league lead in points (183), despite missing the final two games of the regular season after suffering torn knee ligaments on his left (non-kicking) leg on his only rushing play of the season after carrying for 20 yards and a first down vs. Toronto. Wearing a brace, Sean returned to the line-up for the CFL West Division Final vs. Calgary. Was good on 47 of 58 field goal attempts (78.9%). Longest FG was 49 yards. 67 kickoffs for 3,903 yards (avg: 58.3 yds). Punted 123 times for 5,291 yards (avg: 43.0 yds) and average net of 35.6 yards. College/Personal Sean graduated with a degree in exercise physiology from the University of Wyoming. Since 1994, Sean has served as the Honorary chairperson of the Alberta Foundation for Diabetes Research (AFDR) charity golf tournament in Edmonton. The tournament has raised in excess of $1 million for AFDR. In addition to his punting and place kicking duties, Sean works at Price Waterhouse-Coopers as the Manager of Advisory Services.
