A Look Ahead

The 2008 San Diego Padres will look to take control of the west through a pitching staff that has very few holes. This staff is lead by phenom Jake Peavy, and consists of the like of Future Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux and under-the-radar talent Chris Young.

The San Diego Padres are looking to take control of the National League West in 2008...

[edit] Team History

In 1969, the San Diego Padres joined the ranks of Major League Baseball as one of four new expansion teams. Their original owner was C. Arnholt Smith. The Padres finished in last place in each of its first six seasons in the NL West, losing 100 games or more four times. One of the few bright spots on the team during the early years was first baseman and slugger Nate Colbert, an expansion draftee from the Houston Astros and still (as of 2007) the Padres' career leader in home runs.
