SF Giants: Giants Cruise to 5th straight Win

The San Francisco Giants came back to win their 5th straight game on Monday night and have won 10 of their last 12 games. Bruce Bochy has been mixing young players into the lineup on a more consistent basis and it's giving the team some life. The latest youngster to step up and contribute big has been Kevin Frandsen. Frandsen hasn't gotten consistent playing time this season, but has been getting some starts in August and is delivering. The team has gone 7-0 since August 13th in games which Frandsen has started. During that stretch he has gone 7-21 with 3 home runs and 6 RBI. He was a big component in Monday nights come from behind victory as well as he came up with a clutch, 2-RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning that gave the Giants a 3 run lead. It's just too bad they couldn't have came up with some offense earlier to support another brilliant outing by Barry Zito. After a horrific first half with his new club, Barry Zito needs to have a very strong finish over the last part of the season in order to avoid being absolutely roasted by the fans and media over the winter. He has gone 7+ innings in his last 3 starts and he looks like a completely different pitcher now than what he showed in the first half.

The Giants also completed the Matt Morris-Rajai Davis deal on Monday. The team selected 21 year old right hander Steve MacFarland who has spent most of the season in relief with Pittsburgh's single A affiliate. I don't know anything about MacFarland, but I did look at his numbers and they show he is wild, but also has the ability to strike batters out. He's struck out over a batter an inning this year, but also has a WHIP of 1.61 which is why his era is at 4.80 and also why he has yet to make it out of single A. I already like how the trade has turned out for the Giants as Rajai Davis has been a huge part of the teams success this month and even if MacFarland never makes it out of the minor leagues, I have no complaints.

Well, to be fair, my mom could probably beat the Rockies more often than not.

You might still be selling your mom short there!

She has sciatica like Barry Bonds and the Rockies have Jesus on their side, so it's close.

the rockies would do well for themselves to not lose 3 of 4 to the Pirates during a "playoff run"

The Rockies aren't going to make a "playoff run" but they're improved. It's been a while since they finished the season with a .500 or better record and it looks like they may finally get back to that this year.

they would be either 1.5 or 2 games above where they are right now had they not blown that series; putting them only 4 games back going into a series with the nationals. thats why i put it in quotes; that and i hear that phrase from the awful newspapers here constantly.

Yeah, this is the best they've done in a while, it's easy to see why the media there is magnifying things. Hey, anything can happen, I didn't expect them to go this long with the record they have, but the playoffs are a long shot.

The Giants have won 10 of 12...but they are still 13 games out and have no young talent. In 2017, people will start worrying about the Giants again.

I don't disagree with you Silencer. Outside of the starting pitching staff, there isn't a whole lot of future on this team right now.

2000 was the last year the Rockies were over .500 and only by two games then. 1995 was their only season to be in the playoffs when they won the wildcard.

I look for Giants to focus on younger players next year. Benjie Molina leads the Giants in RBI's with 74 which is 10 more than Bonds of course has far fewer at bats. Bonds leads in slugging with .588 percentage with Klesko second with .430 and Randy Winn of all people third in slugging at .420 with Feliz fourth at .410....No player on the team is hitting over .300. Vizquel is hitting .248 his second lowest batting average since 1991.
