[edit] Biography

Born on February 27, 1917 in Cramerton, North Carolina, Rube Melton (Reuben Franklin Melton) played for the Philadelphia Phillies and Brooklyn Dodgers over the course of his 6 year career. Melton broke into the bigs on April 17, 1941 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and put up a 4.73 ERA in 83.2 innings pitched in 1941, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Rube Melton's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1942, when he posted a 3.70 ERA and struck out 107 batters. However, others believe that it was 1946, when he posted a 1.99 ERA.
