Roy Smalley (Roy Frederick, III Smalley) was born on October 25, 1952 in Los Angeles, California. He made his Major League debut on April 30, 1975 for the Texas Rangers. In 1975, his rookie year, he hit .228 with 3 home runs and 33 RBI. Smalley played for the Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 13 year career.

Most people believe that Roy Smalley's best season was 1979, when he slugged 24 home runs and knocked in 95 runs.
