Rip Russell (Glen David Russell) was born on January 26, 1915 in Los Angeles, California. He made his Major League debut on May 5, 1939 for the Chicago Cubs. In 1939, his rookie year, he hit .273 with 9 home runs and 79 RBI. Russell played for the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 6 year career.

Most people believe that Rip Russell's best season was 1939, when he knocked in 79 runs.
