Rip Hawkins (Ross Cooper Hawkins) was born on April 21, 1939 in Winchester, Tennessee. After going to high school at Sewanee (TN) Military Academy, Hawkins attended the University of North Carolina. Hawkins made his professional debut in the NFL in 1961 with the Minnesota Vikings. He played for the Minnesota Vikings for his entire 5 year career.

Most people believe that 1964 was Rip Hawkins's best year, as he ran back 2 interceptions for touchdowns.
