[edit] Biography

Dick Anderson (Richard Paul Anderson) was born on February 10, 1946 in Midland, Michigan. After going to high school at Boulder (CO), Anderson attended the University of Colorado. Anderson made his professional debut in the AFL in 1968 with the Miami Dolphins. He played in the AFL for 2 years, playing for the Miami Dolphins the entire time. Anderson also played in the NFL for 7 years, playing for the Miami Dolphins the entire time.

Most people believe that 1968 was Dick Anderson's best year, as he picked off 8 passes and ran back an interception for a touchdown. Anderson played with the Miami Dolphins 1968-1974, 1976-1977, and was all-pro three times.

Anderson was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993. Anderson could have played any position on the Colorado team. He stood 6-2, weighed 198, and was mobile. Mostly he played safety, but he had some plays as linebacker, and he punted. In three years he had 14 interceptions and 123 unassisted tackles; both were school records. Against Oregon in 1967, he intercepted three passes, knocked two down, made two touchdown-saving tackles, and blocked two men on a teammate’s interception return. Dick was All-America safety in 1967; his brother, Bobby, was All- America halfback in 1969; both were named to Colorado’s All-Century Team in 1989. Dick was two-time academic All- Big Eight and in 1992 received the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award, given to athletes who have the best citizenship records 25 years after graduating.

He settled in Florida, was a state senator four years, and President of two firms, Cellular Trading Corp. and Anderson Insurance. He became chairman of Miami Project, a group sponsoring research on paralysis; treasurer of Club 200, which raises money for families of slain police and fire officers; and a member of NFL Player Advancement, a 12 man group serving former pros.
