Remember: It's Only 2 Games

Maybe it's just because this season seems bigger than any other. Maybe it's just because there are so many storylines to follow that if you tried to look at them all at once, you'd lose your mind. Maybe it's because baseball is at the point where everyone is watching and no one is losing sight on the details. But for those teams that are 0-2, there's already a red flag going up.
But here's the question. Why? Why are all of these teams and sports writers going into panic mode? It's two games. If we were in the middle of June and someone was winless, I'd say we'd have a serious problem here. But come on. It's April 4th. Everyone is rusty. So many errors have been committed by all teams in the past few days that it makes A Rod look like a gold glover. So many wild pitches and ugly swings. It happens. It's a new year.
I bring this up because there have been 2 or 3 articles already on the Cardinals, Nationals and Mariners talking about red flags and how horrible things are going, or how integral it is to get off to a good start. To me, a good start is the first 10 games of the season. Not the first two. I'm not saying that the Nationals are gonna come back and run away with the division. They'll lose 90+ games. But can we please calm down until we've gotten through the first week?
On April 5th, 2006.. the Orioles were 2-0. The Phillies were 0-2. The Orioles finished 70-92. The Phillies finished 85-77. Can we please all remember that a start of 0-2 does not mean an automatic last place finish or a horrible year. Want another example? On April 6th, 2005, Boston started 1-2. They finished tied for first. Milwaulkee and Cincinatti were tied for first place at 2-0. The Cardinals won the division. THE FIRST 2 GAMES MEAN NOTHING. Just wait and see.
I'm happy that the MLB is getting such a huge response out of their fans for the first two games of the season and I'm glad the fans are so high on their teams that they think they should ALL start 2-0. But that can't always happen and it doesn't always matter. No one is going to go winless. No one is going to go 162-0. When your team is 12 games back in August, then you can come back and worry. Until then, just enjoy the games.
