Red Woodhead (James Woodhead) was born on July 9, 1851 in Chelsea, Massachusetts. He made his Major League debut on April 15, 1873 for the Baltimore Marylands. In 1879, his rookie year, he hit .160 with 0 home runs and 2 RBI. Woodhead played for the Baltimore Marylands and Syracuse Stars over the course of his 2 year career.
