[edit] Biography

Red Schoendienst (Albert Fred Schoendienst) was born on February 2, 1923 in Germantown, Illinois. He made his Major League debut on April 17, 1945 for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1945, his rookie year, he hit .278 with 1 home run and 47 RBI. Schoendienst played for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants and Milwaukee Braves over the course of his 18 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Red Schoendienst's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1953, when he slugged 15 home runs, hit for a .342 average and knocked in 79 runs. However, others believe that it was 1945, when he stole 26 bases and hit for a .278 average.
