Born on December 19, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois, Ray Poat (Raymond Willis Poat) played for the Cleveland Indians, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates over the course of his 6 year career. Poat broke into the bigs on April 15, 1942 with the Cleveland Indians, and put up a 5.13 ERA in 80.2 innings pitched in 1944, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Ray Poat's best season was 1948, when he posted a 4.34 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 57 batters.
