This game recap was originally written for my blog, Black And Gold Sports.
Josh Phelps had a homer and a triple in one of his biggest games to date. Phelps, along with a complete game from Tom Gorzelanny, helped Pittsburgh finish their series sweep of the Giants.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
2nd Inning- The Bucs opened it up with an Isturiz single to drive in Castillo to make it 1-0.
6th Inning- Josh Phelps showed some power, hammering his 4th homer of the season, a two-run shot while Bay was on base.
7th Inning- Phelps wasn't done, he also tripled in the seventh to bring in his 3rd and 4th RBI of the game, Bautista and Isturiz.
PITCHING BREAKDOWN
Pirates- Tom Gorzelanny stole the pitching spotlight, pitching a complete game shutout to get his 11th win of the season. His stats looked like this: 5H,1BB,4K's.
Giants- Barry Zito got out of a jam in the first, but it still wasn't enought as he left with a loss that brought his record to 8-11. He had 4K's and let up 3 runs. His relievers, Chulk and Taschner, combined to pitch 3 innings and had 4K's.
