Born on May 20, 1904 in Terryville, Connecticut, Pete Appleton (Peter William Appleton) played for the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Washington Senators, Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Browns over the course of his 14 year career. Appleton broke into the bigs on September 14, 1927 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 4.68 ERA in 82.2 innings pitched in 1928, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Pete Appleton's best season was 1936, when he posted a 3.53 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 77 batters.
