Passing of the Torch

So last night the NHL took a break from being its normal brutal self, and all the stars gathered in Toronto for the annual awards banquet. This is the one time of the year to catch all your favorite stars in their finest attire as they gather to relive the year that was, and celebrate the outstanding performances.
Perhaps the most interesting moment of the evening was a passing of the torch. For decades now the NHL has always been Wayne Gretzky’s league. Even after his retirement Gretzky was the golden standard to measure all other superstars by. Last night a new era was ushered in when Sidney Crosby took home the Hart Award from NHL’s best player. Crosby has been in the league for two seasons, and already he has carried the stagnant Pittsburgh Penguins to the playoffs, and he is quickly becoming the face of the league. At the rate he is going, it will not be long before we have to etch a new face into the NHL Mount Rushmore that includes Sid the Kid.
